Small sand cliff. #walk #beach #ocean #BarBeach #NewcastleNSW

From the shifting edge of the water, the sand slopes up for a couple or metres then goes vertical, forming an almost perpendicular cliff of drier sand that is regular beach level and continues for some way along (not as far as Dixon Park Beach). The little sand cliff was maybe up to a metre or so - the slope to the sea made it seem higher when walking below it.

Standing on the soft sand just above where the current tide is reaching and looking southwards towards the Merewether end of the beach. Light coloured sand meets the lacy fringe of blue green water. Sky is light blue with lots of white fluffy clouds.

Fisherman in white tee and dark shorts standing on the end of a thin spit or outcrop of rock staying just above the high tide (still gets some water washing over). Water is light green with patches of dark blue (underwater rocks and weed) on the left of the outcrop and a darker blue green on the right. Small waves are breaking in the area above the end of the outcrop, turning the water lacy white.

Looking south along Bar Beach to Merewether at high tide from a nearby lookout point. Light sandy beach curves round to the left, then coastal headlands take over. Water is variable colour - greens and blues. Fairly calm surf, with only a modest edge of white lace. Cloudy skies but sun still breaking through.

This was my first view of the #ocean today while #hiking around a peninsula. Outgoing leg was on the side of the peninsula facing the mainland with an expansive marsh in between. Then we cut across the peninsula (seeing this view) and returned on the ocean side. With strong winds and dark overcast, we had the place mostly to ourselves! #CapeCod #beach #SeaScape
