Halfway through summer sunset, Scoville Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. August 4, 2019, 8:22 PM.

In the deepening twilight of post sunset, we are standing beside a large lake, looking over a tangled thicket of leafy plants and wildflowers. Both this shore and the wooded far shore are mostly silhouetted in the fading light. Beneath a pale blue gray sky, the lingering gold and orange of the sunset tint the horizon and are mirrored on the slightly rippled water below.

A blue gray evening sky with a few slowly dissolving fair weather cloud clusters. We are on the shore of a large lake, whose completely placid surface is unruffled by the slightest breeze, mirroring the sky perfectly. We are standing on an outcrop of rough gray rock with scrubby green leafy plants growing in some cracks. There are more rock outcrops along the far shore. The pale orange sun is setting behind a forest just past that shoreline.

Eurasian dotterel, or Keräkurmitsa in Finnish and Eudromias morinellus in Latin, wondering if we are a threat or not. She followed us for a bit. Apparently, they are curious birds and trusting. This was shot in Norway on our long-awaited hike to the Gaissene area in 2023.

Several thousand years ago, the river bed was blocked by a lava flow from Mount Etna. As the lava was cooled much more quickly by the water than it would have done otherwise, it crystallised in the form of columns. Over the next millennia, the river naturally eroded a channel through these columns, resulting in impressive gorges and ravines, such as the Alcantara Gorges (Gole dell'Alcantara) next to Francavilla di Sicilia, where the Peloritani mountains end. – Wikipedia

Beneath a gray April sky we are walking across a wooden footbridge. A dirt and gravel footpath leads through a grove of tall, graceful pine trees. It has been raining lightly. The bleached and weathered wooden bridge is darkened by the rain, although the end section below the pines is mostly dry.
